Alessio Zappone, University of Cassino and Southern Lazio, Italy.
Alessio Zappone obtained his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering in 2011 from the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio, Cassino, Italy. His Ph.D. studies were focused on distributed algorithms for energy-efficient resource allocation in wireless networks. After obtaining his Ph.D Alessio has been with the Technische Universitaet Dresden, Germany, managing the project CEMRIN on energy-efficient resource allocation in wireless networks, funded by the German Research Foundation. From 2017 to 2019 he has been the recipient of the H2020 Individual Marie Curie fellowship for experienced researchers BESMART, carried out in the LANEAS group of CentraleSupelec, Paris, France. He is now a tenured professor at the university of Cassino and Southern Lazio, Italy. He was appointed exemplary reviewer for the IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON COMMUNICATIONS and IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS in 2017. Alessio is an IEEE Senior Member, serves as senior area editor for the IEEE SIGNAL PROCESSING LETTERS and as guest editor for the IEEE JOURNAL ON SELECTED AREAS ON COMMUNICATIONS (Special Issues on Energy-Efficient Techniques for 5G Wireless Communication Systems and on Wireless Networks Empowered by Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces). He is the chair of the Special Interest Group REFLECTIONS, focusing on RIS within the SPCC-TC, and vice-chair of the IEEE Emerging Technology Initiative on RIS.
Marco Di Renzo, CNRS & CentraleSupelec, France.
Marco Di Renzo was born in L’Aquila, Italy, in 1978. He received the Laurea (cum laude) and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of L’Aquila, Italy, in 2003 and 2007, respectively, and the Habilitation a Diriger des Recherches (Doctor of Science) degree from University Paris-Sud, France, in 2013. Since 2010, he has been with the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), where he is a CNRS Research Director (CNRS Professor) in the Laboratory of Signals and Systems (L2S) of Paris-Saclay University – CNRS and CentraleSupelec, Paris, France. He is also a Nokia Foundation Visiting Professor at Aalto University, Helsinki, Finland, and was an Honorary Professor at University Technology Sydney. In Paris-Saclay University, he is a Member of the coordinating committee of the Ph.D. school on Information and Communication Technologies, and the Coordinator of the “Intelligent Networks” research cluster within the DigiCosme Laboratory of Excellence. He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Communications Letters. He served as an Editor of IEEE Transactions on Communications, IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, IEEE Communications Letters, and as the Associate Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Communications Letters. He is a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society and IEEE Communications Society. He is a recipient of several awards, including the 2013 IEEE-COMSOC Best Young Researcher Award for Europe, Middle East and Africa, the 2013 NoE-NEWCOM# Best Paper Award, the 2014-2015 Royal Academy of Engineering Distinguished Visiting Fellowship, the 2015 IEEE Jack Neubauer Memorial Best System Paper Award, the 2015 CNRS Award for Excellence in Research and Ph.D. Supervision, the 2016 MSCA Global Fellowship (declined), the 2017 SEE-IEEE Alain Glavieux Award, the 2018 IEEE-COMSOC Young Professional in Academia Award, the 2019 Nokia Foundation Visiting Professorship, and 8 Best Paper Awards at IEEE. He is a Highly Cited Researcher according to Clarivate Analytics and Web of Science, and a Fellow of the IEEE. He is the chair of the Special Interest Group RISE, focusing on RIS within the W-TC, and liason chair of the IEEE Emerging Technology Initiative on RIS, with the Emerging Technology Committee.
Wei Xu, Southeast University, China
Wei Xu is currently a Professor with the National Mobile Communications Research Laboratory, Southeast University. He has co-authored over 80 refereed journal articles in addition to 28 granted domestic patents and three U.S. patents. He has served on the technical program committees for international conferences, including the IEEE GLOBECOM, IEEE ICC, IEEE WCNC, IEEE VTC, and IEEE PIMRC. He received the best paper awards from the IEEE MAPE in 2013, the IEEE/CIC ICCC in 2014, the IEEE GLOBECOM in 2014, the IEEE ICUWB in 2016, and WCSP in 2017. He was a co-recipient of the First Prize of the Science and Technology Award in Jiangsu Province, China, in 2014. He was an Editor of the IEEE Communications Letters, from 2012 to 2017. He is currently an Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Communications and IEEE Access. He has served as a Co-Chair for a workshop in the IEEE ICCC 2018, and for the Wireless Communication Track of the WCSP 2019.
Chau Yuen, Singapore University of Technology and Design, Singapore.
Chau Yuen received the BEng and PhD degree from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, in 2000 and 2004 respectively. He is the recipient of Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal, Institution of Electrical Engineers Book Prize, Institute of Engineering of Singapore Gold Medal, Merck Sharp & Dohme Gold Medal and twice the recipient of Hewlett Packard Prize. Dr. Yuen was a Post Doc Fellow in Lucent Technologies Bell Labs, Murray Hill during 2005. He was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2008. During the period of 2006 ‐ 2010, he worked at the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R, Singapore) as a Senior Research Engineer, where he was involved in an industrial project on developing an 802.11n Wireless LAN system, and participated actively in 3Gpp Long Term Evolution (LTE) and LTE‐Advanced (LTE‐A) standardization. He joined the Singapore University of Technology and Design as an assistant professor from June 2010, and received IEEE Asia-Pacific Outstanding Young Researcher Award on 2012. Dr. Yuen serves as an Editor for IEEE Transaction on Communications and IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, and awarded as Top Associate Editor from 2009 - 2015. He was the lead guest editor for IEEE Communication Magazine special issue on “Energy Harvesting Communications” on 2015, guest editor for IEEE JSAC special issue on “Wireless Networks Empowered by Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces” 2019, and lead guest editor for IEEE TCCN special issue on “Intelligent Surfaces for Smart Wireless Communications” 2020. He has 2 US patents and published over 350 research papers. He is the vice chair of the Special Interest Group RISE, focusing on RIS within the W-TC, and vice-chair of the IEEE Emerging Technology Initiative on RIS.
Mark Flanagan, University College Dublin, Ireland.
Mark F. Flanagan received the B.E. and Ph.D. degrees in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from University College Dublin, Ireland, in 1998 and 2005 respectively. From 2006 to 2008, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the University of Zurich, Switzerland, the University of Bologna, Italy, and The University of Edinburgh, U.K. In 2008, he was appointed as SFI Stokes Lecturer in electronic engineering with University College Dublin, where he is currently an Associate Professor. His research interests are principally in the areas of communication theory, signal processing and wireless communications.
Prof. Flanagan is serving as an Executive Editor for the journal IEEE Communications Letters, and as an Associate Editor for Frontiers in Communications and Networks. He was the recipient of the Consolidator Laureate Award from the Irish Research Council in 2018. He has given invited presentations at venues including TU Vienna, EPFL Lausanne, the University of Bologna, and the Joint Mathematics Meetings of the American Mathematical Society. He has served as TPC Co-Chair for the Communication Theory Symposium of IEEE ICC 2020. He regularly serves on the TPC of top-tier international conferences such as IEEE GLOBECOM and IEEE ICC, and he is a reviewer for many major international journals. He has been a member of the Steering Committee for the Irish Signals and Systems Conference (ISSC) since 2012. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE. He is also actively involved in national Mathematics Outreach programmes. He is a vice-chair od the Special Interest Group REFLECTIONS, focusing on RIS within the SPCC-TC.
Daniel Benevides da Costa, Federal University of Cearà, Brazil.
Daniel Benevides da Costa received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering, Area: Telecommunications, from the University of Campinas, SP, Brazil, in 2006 and 2008, respectively. From 2008 to 2009, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with INRS-EMT, University of Quebec, Montreal, QC, Canada. Since 2010, he has been with the Federal University of Ceará, where he is currently an Associate Professor. Prof. da Costa is currently Executive Editor of the IEEE Communications Letters, Area Editor of the IEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society, and Specialty Chief Editor of the Frontiers in Communications and Networks - Wireless Communications Section. He is also Editor of the IEEE Communications Surveys & Tutorials, IEEE Transactions on Communications, IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, and IEEE Transactions on Cognitive Communications and Networking. He has also served as Associate Technical Editor of the IEEE Communications Magazine. From 2012 to 2017 and from March 2019 to August 2019, he was Editor and Senior Editor, respectively, of the IEEE Communications Letters. He has been elected as Vice-Chair Americas of IEEE Cognitive Networks Technical Committee for the biennium 2019-2020. Prof. da Costa received four conference paper awards. He received the Exemplary Reviewer Certificate of the IEEE Wireless Communications Letters in 2013 and 2019, the Exemplary Reviewer Certificate of the IEEE Communications Letters in 2016, 2017, and 2019, the Certificate of Appreciation of Top Associate Editor for outstanding contributions to IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology in 2013, 2015, 2016, the Exemplary Editor Award of IEEE Communications Letters in 2016, the Outstanding Associate Editor Award of IEEE Access in 2017, the Certificate of Appreciation for notable services and contributions to IEEE Access in 2018, 2019.
