Keynote: "The Evolution of Spectrum Sharing: TVWS, CBRS, 6 GHz, and Beyond,"

Speaker: Andrew Clegg, Spectrum Engineering Lead for Google Inc

Biography: Andrew Clegg is the Spectrum Engineering Lead for Google. He is presently focused primarily on identifying spectrum sharing opportunities for wireless networks and services. Prior to joining Google, he served as the spectrum manager for the U.S. National Science Foundation for 11 years. At NSF, he founded the Enhancing Access to the Radio Spectrum (EARS) program, a $50 million program dedicated to funding academic and small business research focused on improving spectrum efficiency and access. Prior to NSF, he was a Lead Member of Technical Staff at what is now AT&T Mobility. He has over 25 years' experience in national and international spectrum management for both government and commercial applications, and was a member of the U.S. delegation to two World Radiocommunication Conferences.

Biographies:

  • Nada Golmie (nada.golmie@nist.gov) received her Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Maryland at College Park. Since 1993, she has been a research engineer at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. She is currently the chief of the wireless networks division in the Communications Technology Laboratory. Her research in media access control and protocols for wireless networks led to over 100 technical papers presented at professional conferences, journals, and contributed to international standard organizations and industry led consortia.  She is the author of "Coexistence in Wireless Networks: Challenges and System-level Solutions in the Unlicensed Bands," published by Cambridge University Press (2006). She leads several projects related to the modeling and evaluation of future generation wireless systems and protocols and serves as a co-chair for the Next5G Channel Model Alliance. 
  • Zhengdao Wang joined NSF as an IPA program director in January 2020 in the Division of Electrical, Communications and Cyber Systems (ECCS), Directorate for Engineering. He is also a professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Iowa State University. His research interests are in the areas of signal processing, communications, information theory, machine learning, and their applications.
  • Jason Coder received his B.S.E.E. and M.S.E.E degrees from the University of Colorado Denver in 2008 and 2010, respectively. Mr. Coder currently leads the Shared Spectrum Metrology Group in the National Institute of Standards and Technology's Communications Technology Laboratory. During his tenure at NIST, Mr. Coder has worked in fundamental EM measurements, EMC, and antenna measurements. His current research focuses on developing new measurement methods for spectrum sharing, wireless coexistence, and interference. Mr. Coder currently serves as the Chair of the ANSI C63.27 working group on Wireless Coexistence, and the Chair of ANSI C63 Subcommittee on Spectrum Etiquette.
  • Mark Gibson: With over 37 years of spectrum management experience, Mark is responsible for developing domestic and international business opportunities for CommScope. In addition to leading technical and business development efforts for numerous wireless and spectrum-related products and services, he has led efforts to address spectrum sharing between Federal government and commercial users. He leads CommScope's CBRS efforts on the Spectrum Access System/Environmental Sensing Capability.  He is a board member of the CBRS Alliance and an officer on the board of the Wireless Innovation Forum. He is a member of the Commerce Spectrum Management Advisory Committee, where he has also co-chaired working groups related to spectrum sharing and data exchange issues. He has a BSEE from the University of MD and has authored several papers on spectrum sharing and relocation and has advised numerous wireless participants in their system design.  He is a Life Member of IEEE. He has an amateur radio license and is an instrument-rated commercial pilot.
  • Rose Qingyang Hu is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering Department and Associate Dean for Research of College of Engineering at Utah State University. Besides more than 12 years' academia research experience, Prof. Hu has more than 10 years R&D experience with Nortel, Blackberry and Intel as technical manager, senior research scientist, and senior wireless system architect, leading industrial wireless technology development and 3GPP/IEEE standardization. Her current research interests include next-generation wireless communications, wireless networking, Internet of Things, AI/ML, Mobile Edge Computing. Prof. Hu is an Fellow of IEEE,  IEEE Distinguished Lecturer for IEEE ComSoc and  IEEE VTS.
