Title: WirelessHP: towards the Ethernet-grade wireless for critical control in industrial automation

Abstract:  Demanded by the industrial applications, 5G has promised to support integration with the wired industrial ethernet especially the Time Sensitive Networking (TSN). However, there are still major gaps to truly provide a wireless equivalent to the wired industrial ethernet, which should be of the mission of the Extreme URLLC in 6G. In this presentation, I will introduce the progresses on the WirelessHP towards the Ethernet-grade wireless for critical control which has achieved <7us packet transmission time, <10e-9 BER without retransmission, and <100us application cycle time with customized PHY and MAC layer. Design principles, open challenges and future directions will be discussed.

Biography: Dr. Zhibo Pang, MBA & PhD, is currently a Senior Principal Scientist at ABB Corporate Research Sweden, Adjunct Professor at University of Sydney, and Affiliated Faculty at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). He is a Senior Member of IEEE and Co-Chair of the Technical Committee on Industrial Informatics. He is Associate Editor of IEEE TII, IEEE JBHI, and IEEE JESTIE, and was Guest Editor of Proceedings of the IEEE, IEEE IoT-J, and IEEE RBME, etc. He has 60+ patents and 70+ refereed journal papers. He was awarded the “2016 Inventor of the Year Award” and “2018 Inventor of the Year Award” by ABB Corporate Research Sweden.
